Craig introduces us to the stunning Caterham 7 310 sports car
As cars go, the Caterham stands out from the crowd, breaks the mould and offers a totally different driving experience. For today’s post I want to share my experience of the Caterham 7 310R. An epic ride for those that want something totally different from the standard saloon.
Based directly on the original Lotus 7, this car takes you back in time. Compact, lightweight and crazy fast, this nippy little racer will take you from 0-60 in a tarmac blistering 4.9 seconds. Quoted by Caterham themselves as a ‘happy accident’ the 310R comes with an upgraded 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine and an extra 20bhp.
Craig shares details of his stay at the luxury five star Belmond Reid’s Palace Hotel in Funchal, Madeira
The stunning Belmond Reid’s Palace Hotel, set in a stunning cliff edge
With some of the most stunning views across Madeira, the Belmond Reid’s Palace Hotel nestles gently on the edge of a beautiful cliff top in all its luxurious pink glory. Noted as one of the most famous Hotels in the world, frequented by none other than Sir Winston Churchill himself, it was an honour to have three wonderful nights here. Welcome to the Belmond Reid’s Palace Hotel
Belmond Reid’s Palace spans a large area of the cliff edge in Madeira
While a little ‘normal’ and unassuming from the roadside, the second you step beyond its doors you are transported to a different era. One of decadence and indulgence, of class, elegance and taste. This Hotel was not built to be enjoyed from the road, but from the sea, where you are afforded the magical spectacle of its perfect cliff top position.
With 158 beautifully styled and decorated rooms, 4 restaurants (1 with a Michelin star), 3 pools, a spa, a sauna, and its own tennis courts, it is the perfect escape. Take afternoon tea on the picturesque terrace, enjoy perfect poached eggs and a bucks fizz for breakfast while overlooking the Atlantic ocean, or explore Funchal with the Hotel as your base. The choices are yours.
Breakfast choices at the Belmond Reid’s Palace Hotel are wide and varied, and the coffee is great!
Craig shares his experience of his stay at the Port Lympne animal reserve and safari experience
Every now then I am surprised by an experience. I had absolutely no idea that just two train stops from Stratford and I could be hand feeding a Giraffe, monkeys and a Rhino. The Port Lympne animal reserve and safari experience is home to 760 animals across 90 species, including giraffes, monkeys, bears, lions and tigers. Not only that but you can stay in lodges with the animals!

Where to Stay at Port Lympne
For our two day experience we stayed at Port Lympne Mansion. This stunning grade II listed building was built in 1913 for Sir Phillip Sassoon. Like many large country homes it became abandoned after the second world war, before being bought in 1973 by John Aspinall who spent 10 years restoring the mansion. Aspinall was an interesting character known also for his gambling and links to the ‘disappearance’ of Lord Lucan, whom it is said he met with many years after he went missing. View Post
