What I Wore Today #53

Craig of That Dapper Chap shares what he wore today in an outfit by Racing Green

Today’s look is from the Racing Green collection available in stores and online at Debenhams. I actually ordered the items in preparation for the event that I attended to launch Ben Fogle as the face of their High Summer Range, but having ordered late, it unfortunately didn’t arrive for the event so I thought I’d share it with you now.

The jacket is the blue textured wool blend blazer. in 57% wool it’s a jacket that’s easily dressed up or down and could easily become a wardrobe staple as it’s so easy to wear. In a regular fit, with three external pockets and two internal pockets, it also has a contrasting under collar to add a bit of extra interest when you turn up the collar to keep out the wind.

Please note when ordering yours that Racing Green tend to be on the generous size. I usually wear a 40″ chest but this one is a 38″ and fits very well.

Debenhams launches Ben Fogle as the face of Racing Green Menswear

Craig of That Dapper Chap joins press and bloggers at the luxurious Cliveden House to celebrate the launch of Ben Fogle as the new face of Racing Green menswear at Debenhams, with a day of fine dining and classic cars

My favourite of the classic cars; a stunning Austin Healey in two tone blue and cream
Cliveden House in all its majestic glory

After meeting the Debenhams crew and the rest of the guests at Paddington station on a warm spring morning, we boarded our train and headed to Cliveden House in the stunning Taplow countryside. With guests from the Telegraph, The Guardian, Drapers Magazine, Fashionbeans along with myself, Ben from 21st Century Gent and Charlie from Man About Town, I was in good company.

The beautiful architecture of Cliveden House

On arrival we were introduced to adventurer and TV personality Ben Fogel and the classic cars that we would be driving through the countryside. With a Mark II Jaguar, a classic Mini, an Austin Healey, an Interceptor III and an E-Type Jaguar there were some stunning vehicles to choose from.

My favourite of the cars was the 90’s Austin Healey, low set and convertible, the shape of this car really appealed to me. With a V8 engine it’s a gutsy beast and drives like a dream. After sweeping our way around Berkshire, periodically swapping and changing cars as we went, I got in to the Mark II Jaguar as Ben Fogle’s passenger. After a few minutes struggling with reverse gear we set of and chatted all the way back to Cliveden House.

After shooting some of the cars beside the stunning fountain at the start of the long gravel driveway, it was time for lunch. The house itself is beautiful both inside and out. The decor is incredibly stately and luxurious, and a perfect setting for such an event.

Ben Fogle for Racing Green

With numerous achievements under his belt, from rowing the Atlantic Ocean, crossing Antarctica on foot and running across the Sahara, Bens latest role sees him in a less strenuous position as ambassador of the high summer range of menswear from Racing Green at Debenhams.

If you’ve followed my blog for a while you’ll know that I’ve worked with Racing Green in the past and covered some of their collection in previous posts HEREHERE and HERE

The high summer collection, as modelled by Ben offers a range of affordable and attainable styles. Colours are vibrant and also incorporates the trend of the gingham shirt to create that preppy look that’s so popular this summer.

Styling a look from the Racing Green SS17 collection

Craig of That Dapper Chap styles a look from the latest SS17 collection from Racing Green, available at Debenhams.

If you’ve followed my blog for a little while, firstly thank you, but secondly you’ll know that I’ve worn and written about Racing Green menswear previously, once for my trip to Prague and before that on a weekend away, so we already know that I’m a fan of their clothing.

What you may not know is that You’ll now find Racing Green in Debenhams as they have recently taken on the brand, hence the desire to share some of the range with you.

The look that I’ve put together starts with the jeans. These are the blue mid wash straight leg jeans, available in sizes 28 to 38, they are a heavier denim than others I own. They’re a great staple item and are even available in tall sizes.

If you wanted something a little less casual you could always wear chinos instead of jeans. Racing Green also offer some really nice well fitted chinos in a nice range of colours. Below we have Khaki, blue, brown, light grey, and red, each are £30.00, available in sizes 30 to 38, and like the jeans also in big and tall sizes up to a 46.

To create a more casual look I added the 100% cotton blue ribbed crew neck jumper, which is just as easily worn over a T Shirt or on it’s own, but I opted to wear it over the blue textured striped tailored shirt which is another great staple, yet versatile item. I’ve already worn this under a suit with a tie, so it’s an item that can be dressed up or down. With a button down collar in 100% cotton it also feels great to wear.

With the inclement weather that we’re currently having in my part of the country, a good waterproof coat is a must. This navy hooded four pocket jacket is just the ticket. Made from polyester and cotton, it’s lightweight and can even be thrown in the tumble dryer if you do get drenched!

So on a wet Sunday morning stroll to the local quay this outfit was a perfect choice. warm enough for the spring chill that sat in the air, and smart enough to still look presentable and stylish. No Sunday morning stroll would be complete without a pit stop for a good cup of coffee, and with a couple of really good bars and cafe’s we did just that.

I hope you approve of the look I’ve put together for you. Feel free to leave a comment below to let me know your thoughts or your experience with Racing Green. Thanks for stopping by.
