Craig shares his experience with Hemingway Tailors and shows off his new bespoke shirt
As men we wear a lot of shirts and we’ve all seen those guys in ill fitting, baggy monstrosities, sagging at the collar and too long at the arms. On the flip side we’ve also seen the ones where the buttons strain and gape at the chest. All utterly dreadful, and all to be avoided, unless you want to look like you been at the dressing up box.
A well fitted shirt says a lot about a man. It shows that you take yourself seriously and care about your appearance. That said, allow me to introduce Hemingway Tailors.
It’s very important to Mark that when he meets a client he is able to offer personal advice on the cloth and styles that fit best with his customers lifestyle and personal style.
With some very high profile and famous clients, it was my turn to experience the Hemingway service.
Mark made me feel very welcome and with a coffee in my hand he explained what to expect from the experience and how he came in to the business. His passion for tailoring is very clear and I knew instantly that I was in good hands.
The cloth and options for my shirt were endless and Mark assisted me through the selection process offering advice and an insight in to what would work for me on a personal level.
Of course measuring is key to the creation of a made to measure or bespoke garment. This was done quickly and efficiently with Mark recording all the necessary detail, and after discussing options for buttons, collars, cuffs and overall fit I was very happy with my choices.
I wanted a shirt that would be suitable for the office, but one that would look just as good paired down with jeans or chinos for a less formal look. As it’s summer I wanted a fine cotton in a colour that was unobtrusive and looked smart. I settled on a classic light blue cloth but the options are extensive.
A few short weeks later and my shirt was ready. Arriving back at Peacock Yard on a hot July morning I was excited to see my new shirt and I wasn’t disappointed. It was exactly what I wanted and it fitted like a glove, even down to the extra width on the left cuff to accommodate my watch.
I’m incredibly happy with my shirt. It’s a perfect fit and is just what I wanted. Are you looking for a new tailor? Maybe you have a wedding coming up and you’re looking for that special suit? Perhaps you’ve never had a made to measure garment and are interested in getting something made for you? Either way I’d love to hear your thoughts so please feel free to leave me a comment below.
My shirt is priced at £195. Made to measure two piece suits start at £850 and a bespoke suits starts at £2,650
